THE INTEGRAL EDUCATION

Computer application is a journey from man to man &

life is a journey from self to self

Unfolding the newer approach to awakening an integral education that would mean "Education for life and not for mere living". IISIT, ever since its inception has been making prodigious efforts in blending modern based education with the valuable Indian heritage and culture. It exhibits Educational Integrity through:

                Spirituality

                Cultural Festivity

                Service Activities

The philosophy of education of IISIT is based on the appreciation of the need to provide full scope for the development of body, mind and heart. Discipline, duty and adherence to basic human values, which are the best qualities of students, are also being observed in various situations; in the campus and in the hostel or even during the festivals, study tours and picnic.

Once in a week after classes at 4.00 P.M. the students, teachers and staff assemble for Sarvadharma prayer which itself is a reminder of the essential unity of different faiths despite apparent differences in the details of ritual, worship etc.

Sarvadharma prayer promotes faith and devotion, improves memory and concentration, sharpens intuition and instills a humble and spiritual conception of fatherhood of God and brotherhood of man. Group singing promotes devotion and reverence, develops a musical sense and develops harmony of body, mind and spirit and also helps control outer senses and father concentration.

The twin purpose of education here at IISIT is the inculcation of "Intellectual Vision" and the imparting of "Knowledge of technique". To state this in simple terms: The learner should be so taught that he knows well what he knows and he does well what he does.

Albert Einstein, the greatest Scientist of all time, has offered this advice of his fellow Scientists:

"The concern for man and his destiny ought to become the chief motivating force behind all his efforts. We cannot afford to forget this in the midst of our diagrams and equations".

The acquisition of knowledge and skills is undoubtedly important. Equally important is the cultivation of the desire to be of service to society. The learning process here is in tune with this principle.

"Education is for life. It is not a mere instrument that aids one in making a living".

IISIT harmoniously blends secular and spiritual education ideally suited to the present day context. Modern education ends with bookish knowledge. It is confined to what is contained in the books. But IISIT imparts Educare that translates education to practice. Educate is not limited to the study of books. It is related to the source of all knowledge that is latent in the heart of a human being. This is the type of education which is of prime necessity today and IISIT imparts it.

The Model of Integral Education of IISIT is a total re-orientation which goes to prove the feasibility of a viable model for a total reorientation to university level education. At the operational level, it delineates some of the salient features which could have great relevance in the larger context of formal educational systems. Five of these features are listed below:

(i)  an up-to-date and well balanced curriculum, meant to avoid stuffing of the brain with information, but promoting a spirit of enquiry based on current levels of knowledge.

(ii)  teaching methods imparting the right values aimed at promoting the learning capabilities and facilitating total awareness.

(iii)      an examination system which bring out the best in the students and makes a continuous assessment of his comprehension instead of making it a stressful one shot operation.

(iv)  co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, cultural activities, spiritual activities, service activities and group activities which promote a term and community spirit instead of merely stressing individual excellence.
