VALUES
The
philosophy of education of IISIT is based on the
appreciation of the need to provide full scope for
the development of mind and heart.
Discipline, duty and adherence to basic
human values, which are the best qualities of
students are also being observed in various
situations; in the hostel, and in the campus or
even during the festivals, study tours and picnic.
Once
in a week after classes at 4:00 P.M. the students,
teachers and staff assemble for Sarvadharma prayer
which
itself is a reminder of the essential unity of different
faiths despite apparent differences in the details of ritual, worship etc.
It is firmly believed, by our sages and saints or even our modern leaders
like Mahatma Gandhi, Vinoba Bhave etc., that prayers and hymns elevate the
mind, illumine the intellect, sublimate the senses, purify the heart and
awaken
the soul and help in establishing rapport with ourselves. Tennysone
has said: "More things are wrought by egoism and its evil
consequences."
Sarvadharma
prayer promotes faith and devotion, improves memory
and concentration, sharpens intuition and instills a humble and spiritual
conception of fatherhood of God and brotherhood of man. Group singing
promotes devotion and reverence, develops a musical sense and develops
harmony of body, mind and spirit and also helps control outer senses and
further concentration.
The
important prayer which is sung besides the Sarvadharma prayer on weekly
prayer, is:
Asathoma
Satgamaya
(Lead
me from untruth to truth;)
Thamasoma
Jyotirgamaya
(Lead
me from darkness to light;)
Mruthyorma
Amritamgamaya
(Lead
me from death to immortality.)
Real
Education should enable one to utilise the knowledge one has acquired to
meet the challenges of life and to make all human beings happy as far as
possible. This is what IISIT
aims at and proceeds towards.
